The death is announced of NETBALL as we know it when some of the most gullible people who play the sport unanimously KILLED it last night at the National Stadium ( Dec 16).
Comprising members of COW Rangers,PH St Barnabas,Carlton,Prison Service,Barbados Secondary Schools League and others of that ilk, they gave the former Vice President the mandate to lead THEIR sport for the next two years.
Showing a level of stupidity never witnessed before they single-handedly performed homicide thinking they had given life to THEIR sport.
The funeral of the late sport of NETBALL leaves Mercy Me Funeral Parlour,Laugh at Them Road,St.Michael in the year 2011 where all perpetrators are asked to attend. The funeral will then proceed to the Regional and International arena for the interment. Monetary contributions can be made to SOMEBODY's pocket.
This blog has been created with the intention of raising questions about the state of netball in Barbados. Any names mentioned will be of people who are involved in the sport and all situations will be real.

Giant killer !
In the Bible Samson killed Goliath and in the land of fairy tales the giant was killed by Jack.
In the 2009 Barbados Secondary Schools Netball League, Combermere is proving that they are the giant killers in that tournament.
The question to be asked is whether the victories over some of the 'stronger' teams in the competition were achieved through great performances or SIDELINE intervention.
Anyone who know me should be aware that I am a proud Foundationite. So on hearing that we had lost to Combermere, it made me take an interest in that zone of the tournament because I knew that something serious was going to happen. IT DID !!
When St Lucy Secondary was defeated by a scoreline of 15-9 that was shocking. I'm not saying that they couldn't be beaten because the game is played on the day but with such talent as Markayla Yearwood,Jeniece Clarke and Leah Bannister and only score 9 goals?? That equates to less than three goals a quarter!
Garrison Secondary ( 2010 rally winners) also fell victim to Combermere sparking an outcry that something was wrong. HAHAHA !!!
Does anyone see the thread? Is Combermere that good, are the players that great or is SIDELINE intervention a MAJOR part of all this??

Imagine this ........................ Part 2
In 2008 Janice Crookendale had a secret. Or so she thought !
JC as she was popularly called had been made the second in command to a major sporting agency in Los Bade, a small island in the Caribbean.
This new position opened doors for JC. It gave her access to information which could be critical to the success or failure to the company, opportunities to mingle with decision makers and instant prestige. It also gave her access to CASH.
JC's secret was that she stole which made her a thief and until she was caught, she was going to continue. She stole at every given chance and in huge amounts, yet the major stakeholders did nothing.
Then Janice Crookendale did the unthinkable ! She used the her guile and wit to challenge her boss for the position of head honcho.
For more than two months no one knew what to do until the share holders of the agency summoned a meeting of major stakeholders and informed them of the situation.
At the end of the lengthy meeting it was decided that Janice Crookendale would be exposed if she didn't return ALL the money she had stolen and withdraw her bid to be the leader of the agency immediately.
Defiant as usual and not one willingly to adhere to orders, JC never believed that the threats were real until one day she turned up for work and was confronted by a life size poster of her with the words- CAN A THIEF LEAD ??
JC is now M.I.A.

Vision for the sport .......... WHAT ?
The race for the top positions for the Board of the Barbados Netball Association is already in full steam.
Safe Passes has confirmed that one of the individuals who is vying for TWO positions has started canvassing by calling some member clubs. It is also known that this person is using VISION FOR THE SPORT as her platform for seeking re-election and election.
As stated in an earlier post, this individual is in no way capable of leading a national association and has a track record as a quitter or a no-show as is evidenced by her absenteeism MOST of the 2010 domestic season.
Is this VISION FOR THE SPORT teaching member clubs how to be vindictive or to victimize ?? Is it going to be her way of sullying the good name and character of others ?? Is it going to be excluding the present senior national coach who she VOWED NEVER to SUPPORT ??
WHAT IS THIS VISION ??????????????
By the way my 'friend' , one of the clubs you called, has already NOMINATED ME !!

Is it .................. TREASON ??
Outside legal spheres, the word 'traitor' may also be used to describe a person who 'betrays' THEIR own political party, nation , family or any other group to which they belong.
Often such accusations are controversial and disputed as the person ( traitor) may not identify ANYMORE with the group , club or ASSOCIATIONS of which they are a member or they may have otherwise disagreed with the leader.
To CHALLENGE the leader before they have resigned or quit is therefore tantamount to TREASON.
Need I say more ??

Imagine this ........................
Once upon a time in a place known as Barbados, there was a young lady who wanted to coach a national netball team.
Unfortunately for this young lady she did not possess the necessary capabilities to format a training programme which was required by a committee set in place by the governing body of the sport.
Knowing that there were two guys who would be willing to help her on this, she set about seeking their assistance.
Guy #1 was at this time unavailable as he was ALSO helping another person for the same position. Guy #2 being available, set about formatting a programme as simple as ABC or so he thought. He met with the young lady at a secondary school in St Thomas and thoroughly explained the programme to her. OR SO HE THOUGHT .
Imagine the surprise when days later it was realised that not only had the young lady tanked at the interview but she couldn't explain the said training programme !
Now years later, the individual in question is vying to be chief of the national association that governs the same sport. HMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine this ......... She couldn't explain a training programme that's as simple as ABC but .............................
All true, so true .

Unjust and unfair !
The Barbados Netball Association recently announced the management team of the U-21 squad. The selected trio are :
Sonia Knight - Head coach
Marion Johnson-Hurley - Assistant coach
Denese Morgan - Manager
It should be known that when the advertisement for the three positions became available, the newly appointed Assistant Coach DIDN'T apply and to be chosen over the persons who did can never be right.
I too had an interview for the top two positions and to date, has never been told the outcome of said interview. Unnamed sources have said that my NOT being selected is due inpart to my not having coached at the national level. FINE !!
This is where the unjustness has taken place. Has the newly appointed Asst Coach EVER coached at the national level? If she did, maybe I have forgotten.
What about the other candidates who also showed an interest in furthering the development of netball in Barbados? How UNFAIR is it to them ??
I think that the Coaching Advisory Committee ( CAC) of the BNA in making this recommendation has made the WRONG decision and the BNA is equally WRONG for ratifying such .
There is also a common thread that flows through the management team . FIND IT !!!

Not one vote !!
The recent list of nominees for the Board of the Barbados Netball Association has revealed ONE surprise candidate vying for the top two positions.
Existing VP Juanita Cordle has been nominated for both President and Vice President as she seeks to take the sport forward or backward. YOU DECIDE WHICH!!!
It should be noted that in the tenure of VP, this person also 'carried' the responsibility of national teams coordinator, a position of upmost importance as it relates to liaising with ALL national teams and the BNA. In that position she FAILED and it wasn't a small failure.
Similarly, how can the second in command of ANY national sporting organization show a lack of interest in the sport itself? I think the Board of the Association allowed such folly to occur when clubs were constantly asking the same question during the 2010 domestic competition." Where is the VP?"
This person has not been seen around netball since the dinosaurs went out of existence.
Is the challenging of the President an indication that she can do better or that she disagreed with what was/is being done? I think the latter hence the continuous NO-SHOWS .
The general membership of the Barbados Netball Association should also know that when you are bitten by an ant it stings but when a RATTLESNAKE attacks............ death is imminent.
This candidate deserves NOT ONE VOTE !!!!

Queen of the damned!!!
The following is the thinking of the senior national coach.
"I am not one to get into electioneering concerns since I believe there are still the majority of right thinking netball players and netball clubs remaining in the sport.
But Juanita Cordle for president? Has to be the joke of 2010. I don't even think she would be so bold as to consider running for any position on the board. She was an absolute failure as Vice president and national teams coordinator.
In fact she boldly declared that she would never support the present senior national coach. I will not be amused if her first order of business if given the unfortunate opportunity, is to replace this coach.
Some people should know when to quit and don't seek office to cause confusion.
The President should be up front with the BNA electorate about her stewardship and don't allow us to be saddle with a time waster and a seat warmer. In fact I urge the president to declare who she will have as part of her team to move the sport forward.
Be bold and make a statement for progress."

49 to 60
For the first time since 2004 a senior netball team from Barbados has defeated the Calypso Girls ( Trinidad and Tobago).
Knowing that a win would guarantee us seventh (7th) position and the highest placing ever at a Commonwealth Games, the Flying Fish Girls played as though they were swimming from a fisherman in Six Men's ( coach's hometown).
Team Barbados showed determination, stamina and sheer guts when trailing by more than eight goals, they systematically reeled in a floundering and quickly panicking Team Trinidad who incidentally scored the exact number of goals as in St Lucia (59).
Not only was this sweet revenge for the recent loss to the same team at the 2010 AFNA qualifiers but it immediately silenced the many grudgeful minded ( and they were many), perpetrators who falsely advertise themselves as netball coaches daily.
The starting seven was Lydia Bishop ( GS), Nikita Piggott( GA) , Sabreena Smith (WA), Samantha Browne (C), Kizzy Marville ( WD) , Latonia Blackman ( GD) and Lisa Puckerin (GK) with Laurel Browne and Faye Sealy as reserves in the latter stages of the game.
Remember this people. 11-10-10 and 60-59.
If no one understands the above it was on 11th October 2010 when Barbados finally defeated T&T after 6 years of trying with a scoreline of 60 goals versus 59.
WELL DONE GIRLS !!

Beaten !
It was always going to be a case of scoring as many goals as possible against the #2 ranked netball country in the world.
In the end, twenty-two ( 22) was the lucky number.
New Zealand's Silver Ferns outplayed a plucky Barbados unit today to give the Flying Fish Girls their third defeat in Pool B dropping them to fourth place in that pool, setting up a clash with the fourth place finisher from Pool A.
Barbados trailed 6-25, 13-48,16-74 and 22-97.
Starting seven for Barbados :
GS - Laurel Browne
GA - Nikita Piggott
WA - Sabreena Smith
C - Samantha Browne
WD - Makeba Clarke
GD - Latonia Blackman
GK - Lisa Puckerin
Laurel Browne - 7/10
Nikita Piggott - 10/12
Lydia Bishop - 5/6 - 4th q
Barbados now plays for position 7 or 8. The BEST placing EVER at these championships !!

Not this time !
With a completely new starting seven,Team Barbados crashed to their second defeat of the 2010 Commonwealth Games against world #6 South Africa.
The starting seven were :
GS - Lydia Bishop
GA - Nadia Blackman
WA - Sabreena Smith
C - Damisha Croney
WD - Kizzy Marville
GD - Latonia Blackman
GK - Faye Sealy
Unlike in their two previous games ( victories), Team Barbados never got going in the first quarter and trailed the entire game after that.
Credit must be given to them however for taking the fight to the Proteas ( SA) from quarters two to four ( 2-4).
Barbados was again led by Lydia 'Lebron' Bishop with another outstanding shooting performance( 28/33). First timer to these games Nadia Blackman scored 2/5 and regular goal attack Nikita Piggott - 13/15.
Now it's on to world #2 New Zealand.

Another one!!
It wasn't easy but a win is a win.
Behind an 87% shooting average from ace shooter Lydia 'Lebron' Bishop, Team Barbados recorded a satisfactory win against 13th ranked Papua New Guinea at the Commonwealth Games .
Coach Alwyn Babb opted to start with the same seven players who had caused the only upset of the tournament so far when Barbados defeated 10th ranked Cook Islands and might've been anticipating another convincing win. Instead, the Flying Fish Girls had to dig deep to record win #2.
Similar to the recent AFNA Qualifiers in St.Lucia, goal shooter Laurel Browne was introduced into the game at goal keeper ( GK) to contain a flurry of lobs to the shooters from PNG. Damisha Croney was also given some court time replacing Samantha Browne at C in the final quarter.
Lydia Bishop - 39/45 = 87%
Nikita Piggott - 22/28 = 79%
Overall average = 84%

And they said it couldn't be done!
For the first time in a long time ( if ever) Barbados has beaten a country ranked higher than them globally when the Alwyn Babb coached Team Barbados defeated world #10 Cook Islands at the Commonwealth Games in India today with a score of 60-46.
Knowing that a victory was needed, Babb started with what might be the strongest possible seven in a team filled with possibility and played that seven for the entire game.
The starting seven were :
Lydia Bishop - GS
Nikita Piggott - GA
Sabreena Smith - WA
Samantha Browne C
Kizzy Marville - WD
Latonia Blackman - GD
Lisa Puckerin - GK
Goal Shooter Lydia Bishop was almost flawless scoring 48 goals from 49 attempts at an outstanding average of 98 % while goal attack Nikita Piggott converted 12 goals of her 18 attempts for an average of 67%.
Lydia Bishop - 48/49 = 98%
Nikita Piggott - 12/18 = 67%

Guess who was there??
After a hugely successful training camp in Crawley, West Sussex England, Team Barbados committed an unsightly 44 turnovers and were defeated by England 20-81 in their opening game of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi ,India.
While that game is history, I am sure that there are some bigots out there who are openly gloating and that is fine. However it is important that some things be put in perspective.
Several years ago, the governing body of netball ( IFNA) comprising of an America's representative, changed the format of all netball as it relates to the top tier versus those at the bottom, thereby allowing the top 4 to remain unchallenged by those in the lower half of the world's 'elite'.
Defeating any team that competes at the highest level of any sport will always be like getting goat's milk from a holstein cow. It is widely known that the national team from England competes all year round in quality matches which gives them the opportunity to maintain a competitive edge over those that struggle to even tour regionally.
England is ranked #3 in the world to Barbados' #11 which is also a key factor in the defeat meted out yesterday. My mathematics tells me that there are SEVEN countries ranked AFTER England but BEFORE Barbados who all get some type of international competition and will therefore always be a challenge.
It is easy for most of the idiots who are gloating to say negative things about the national team and the management as they seek to redeem themselves at the national level referring to those former coaches, players as well as those who helped create this ranking system. In the end it is what it is!
Sure I too would've liked more goals but what happened yesterday and in the past was started years ago when in a boardroom somewhere in the world, several know-it-alls decided that to maintain the status quo in the sport it was best to keep ANY potential threats off the court.

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations to the Alwyn Babb coached national senior team for placing second at the recently held AFNA World Championships qualifiers at the Beausejour Indoor Complex in St.Lucia.
It is apparent that for most simple-minded,hate mongers who wanted this team to fail, the defeat to St.Lucia was more important and note worthy than the much needed qualification.
Not only is it ridiculous that former national coaches and some present ones have been gloating over this defeat but some past Administrators as well. These are the same coaches who would always knew that Babb was the GO-TO guy when a player needed assistance with improving their fitness level in some area. The most recent being after the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne Australia where one coach NEEDED a player patched up.
People who are in the know apparently DON'T KNOW !! One other blogger has stated that St.Lucia defeated Barbados in 2001 when they were coached by the present Jamaica national coach Connie Francis. This statement can be found on the blog NETBALL SHOTS and was posted after the netball pundits had had their fifteen minutes of fame or should I say INFAMY??
Sometimes it's really good when some people keep their mouths closed, because once that mouth has been opened, it proves that an idiot has appeared !!!
JOB WELL DONE TEAM BARBADOS AND IT'S MANAGEMENT !!!

AFNA Day 1
The 2010 AFNA World Netball qualifiers started on a high for Team Barbados on Friday ( July 23) with a tantalizing victory against St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
Playing in a furnace that is the Beausejour Indoor facility, the Alwyn Babb coached team got off to a slow start. The line up for Team Barbados was Lydia Bishop ( GS) ,Nikita Piggott ( GA) , Sabrina Browne( WA) , Sabreena Smith ( C), Kizzy Marville ( WD), Latonia Blackman ( GD) and Lisa Puckerin ( GK) .
In the first quarter of a very pedestrian game, shooter Lydia Bishop seemed frustrated and it showed in her body language. As a result of this SVG ended the first quarter 11-10.
At the resumption of the game,Team Barbados finally turned up! Lydia seemingly began to play the level of netball that she is known for and the entire Barbadian team began to show themselves as title contenders before going into the halftime with a lead of 24-21.
Needing fresh legs in the third and always crucial quarter,Babb introduced the younger of the Browne sisters ( Samantha) at (C) and moved Sabreena Smith to (WA) which immediately paid dividends. The defensive minded spark was like the turf the game was being played on ( all over the place).
This combination coupled with an almost perfect switching combination between the two shooters allowed Barbados to more than triple the goals of SVG in this quarter ( 16-5) and a third quarter score of 40-25.
With the game all but over, Team Barbados went on a rampage racking up a whopping seventeen goals in the last quarter ( 17-8) before closing out the game 57-33.
Lydia Bishop - 31/39
Nikita Piggott - 26/31
SVG - J Frank - 14/18
Gailene Gordon - 19/24
In other games Trinidad and Tobago beat a determined Canada 48-36 and the USA stunned St.Lucia 42-38.

Congratulations to President of the Barbados Netball Association Octavia Gibson who has been returned as regional representative of the Americas Federation of Netball Associations at a meeting recently held at the Palm Haven Hotel in Rodney Bay, St.Lucia. At the same meeting, Octavia was also elected Secretary of the same Association.

Two from six
Six teams representing four Caribbean and two North American countries paraded through the streets of Castries yesterday as the 2010 AFNA World Netball qualifiers began in St.Lucia.
The Caribbean countries were Barbados,Trinidad and Tobago, St.Vincent and the Grenadines and host country St.Lucia with Canada and the United States the two North American countries.
This year's tournament sees the return of several veterans and the inclusion of some emerging talent. Nadia Blackman,Tonisha Rock-Yaw and Sabrina Browne(daughter of former ace national defender Jacqueline Browne)will ALL make their debut at the senior level.
Returning to strengthen Team Barbados is the impressive Latonia(Picky)Blackman after a few years' absence from national duty.
Only two teams will qualify from this tournament for next year's World Netball Championships(2011)in Singapore.

HMMMM!!
In the past it was the norm that umpires officiating at any regional or international competition would use the training sessions of any national teams to work on any weak areas they might have.
Sadly that practice seemed to have stopped with the selection of Alwyn Babb as head coach of the senior netball team.
It is ridiculous that it seemed as though the management was begging any umpire to assist in the officiating of games and that the TWO who are St.Lucia bound were always busy.HMMMM!!!
This level of unprofessionalism climaxed last night ( July 17) when one of the two,who was available all along became a NO-SHOW. Again I say HMMMM!
Should the Barbados Association of Netball Umpires take some blame for this. YES !!
The 'anointed' umpires were unavailable but the ones who assisted did a remarkable job. Maybe those are the ones who should be St.Lucia bound. HMMMM!!

Team announced
The final twelve netballers for the upcoming World Championships qualifiers were announced on Tuesday night at the Netball Stadium. In case my readers don't know who they are, here goes:
Lydia Bishop
Tonisha Rock-Yaw
Chekirah Shepherd
Nikita Piggott
Sabrina Browne
Samantha Browne
Lisa Puckerin
Laurel Browne
Kizzy Marville
Sabrina Smith
Latonia Blackman
Nadia Blackman
** Reserves :
Damisha Croney
Jeniece Clarke
Shakira Boxill
It is obvious that most people have already begun to question the selection of both Tonisha and Nadia but they are deserving of their selection and that is obvious by the remarkable improvement which is shown in their play.
It is unfortunate that some players have taken the cowardly way out and have NOT returned to national training AFTER the FIFTEEN were announced some weeks ago.
If these players were/are honest with themselves, they would remember that at the INITIAL meeting with the head coach, it was said that even though an individual might be unsuccessful in making the team for the World Championships qualifiers, it did not mean that they could not make the team for the Commnwealth Games.
In previous years, it was unheard of that this structure would be possible within the netball fraternity as it was always the same eight or twelve people who made up the national team. I support the efforts of coach Babb and wish all success to the 2010 national team which will be heading to St Lucia later this month.

President's Cup 2010 the END !!
It is always important to reward individuals or Organizations when good work has been done.
In this case it's the Board of the Barbados Netball Association and the head coach of the national senior team who had the foresight to showcase the 2010 national squad ( divided into two teams) over three days of high intensity netball in the inaugural President's Cup.
Also included were the President's Select and the Barbados Select, two teams which were put together to give much needed practice to the senior squad.
As was expected, the final game was played between both teams comprising the national trialists but it was the Alwyn Babb coached team Barbados 'A' which wanted the victory more and was rewarded with a 42-38 win.
If the high skill level of this game is any indication of what's in store from the national team, then we are in for some serious netball.
CONGRATULATIONS to the youthful and energetic Barbados Select with a creditable third in this competition by staving off the President's Select with a 35-33 win.
KUDOS to all involved!!

President's Cup 2010
A new level of netball begins in Barbados on Thursday June 10th 2010 when the Barbados Netball Association introduces the inaugural President's Cup.
Senior head coach Alwyn Babb commented in yesterday's Sunday Sun ( June 6) that this is an approach which should give the coaches of the national team a chance to see the national squad in games situations.
I am sure a big concern for the management of the senior team will be the umpiring or lack of.
At the moment, there is a lack of quality umpiring at the highest level in Barbados which has at times meant that some of the junior umpires were forced into uncomfortable situations.
Will this happen here too or will the BNA in collaberation with BANU identify those umpires who are suitable for this competition and schedule them accordingly or will spectators be subjected to more of what transpired throughout the season?????

Ode to Spooners Hill !!
Congratulations to Spooners Hill Netball Club for a fantastic series of games in the 2010 Barbados Netball Association's domestic competition.
It should be noted that this unit was NEVER able to train as a team but were able to be convincing winners whenever they took the court.
Ironically the SHNC started their season with a game and a win ( 54-45) against Carlton Club and ended their season against this same club. Again with a win ( 62-61) .
Ace national shooter Lydia Bishop was merciless and completely dominated the shooting circle proving why she is still the number one goal shooter in Barbados ( 47/54). Long range bomber Renee Rudder assisted with another memorable performance ( 15/19).
What is noteworthy is that most of the players in SHNC are in the prime of their lives with the youngest player being in her twenties. AMAZING !!!!!!!!!
Carlton's national U-16 shooting combo of Chemayne Alleyne and Shannon Hackett showed why they may be the future of Barbados in the shooting area if they continue with the game.
Chemayne was strong on her feet and aggressive when necessary( 45/53). However the smooth gazelle like Hackett was a joy to see as she used her height advantage to out jump the smaller defenses from Spooners Hill ( 16/17).
My lone concern was the level of umpiring meted out to both teams.
In an age where coaches are constantly begging for leniency on the whistle and the need to allow the game to flow, this game was riddled with the shrill sound ( BEEEPPPP!!!!!!!!) all the time.
If our players are to be competitive on the world stage, then our umpires need to understand this and allow for more challenges in the game.
Congratulations to Pine Hill St.Barnabas on winning this division ( 2) and Spooners Hill for being 2nd.

Notice served !!!!
Ignorance for some people is blissful. In the same vein so is stupidity. When these two are combined a group of highly IGNORANT and equally STUPID netballers form an UNHOLY ALLIANCE.
Last night ( 07-05-10) at the Netball Stadium it was my decision NOT to umpire in the rain.
DRIZZLES or NOT!!
Apparently this didn't sit well with one member of the Pine Hill St.Barnabas camp who currently plays in this year's domestic competition who quoted " he blowing bare shite". I wasn't going to respond to MISS HOLIER-THAN-THOU but I had to and it's short and to the point. If I was blowing shite and some people look the part, which would you rather ??????
Not to be left out was one of the Medusas( or as she is called by the same PH camp a Jezebel) who opined that I should "put down d whistle and go and tek he tablet". HAHA!!!
Funny enough this wizened Jezebel seems to have a lifelong contract with a major tablet company and have obviously used too much which makes it impossible for me or anyone to even get a prescription.
I am hoping that you have the ability to read this article ( I am doubtful you can). For your sake let's hope your inability to write has improved over the years ( I am doubtful about that too).
I do not care and will never care about the opinions of a bunch of netball ingrates who when the they were in positions of authority did whatever suited them,no matter the cost.

If I wuz.......................like............
The inventors of netball I won't have to pay nightly!!
Former national coaches I would keep my mouth shut and watch the games play.
Ignorant like most I would wonder why my ignorance is now showing.
Medusa 1 and 2 I would hope to go back to being a myth.
***** And the list goes on !!!!

3 - 0
At this stage of the annual Jean Pierre ( U-16) Netball Championships, host Barbados is on course to win their second title in four years.
I will be the first to admit that my initial thoughts of the team were very negative based on what I had seen prior to the start of the tournament. I'm admitting I was wrong.
It's heart warming to see Chemyne Alleyne finally trying to add some movement to her game while still being a nightmare for defenders in this competition. Her shot is on target at this point and this has allowed Barbados to be a perfect 3-0. However she has not be the lone ranger. Her supporting cast, Shannon Hackett has been a tower of pinpoint passing accuray and lithe movement into the shooting circle. This shooting pair are not only combining well but are causing headaches for defenses as they are both scoring machines at this time. KUDOS GIRLS !!!
Defensively I believe that we have the best combo in the tournament in captain Dahlia Scantlebury and Shanice Wharton. They are intense, aggressive and fearless in challenging. Just as they should be!
The lone concern for me is the midcourt which has been guilty of not squeezing the other countries in making more turnovers. Once coach Phillips and her assistant has sorted this out, the midcourt will be fine.
CONGRATS so far girls!!

How dare you???????????????????
There was a time when the trialists for the senior national team would have dwindled less than three weeks into training .That is a thing of the past!
Now if a training session is missed by any player, that player can request that evening's 'workout'. This is a result of having confidence in the coach's ability.
Unfortunately there are naysayers who hold the opinion that some of these trialists shouldn't be there? REALLY !!!
These naysayers are all former national coaches, inclusive of the MEDUSAS, who year after year would recall the players from the the previous year MINUS those individuals deserving of the opportunity to challenge for a place on that year's national team.
Poor MEDUSAS . Poor poor MEDUSAS !!
How dare you ?? You are on the OUTSIDE where you belong !
FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !

Congratulations to Spooners Hill Netball Club on a perfect start to the 2010 domestic season. It is absolutely ridiculous that a team of individuals who seldom trains can be so dominating up to this point beating teams by double digits.
This tells me that either the teams are scared of SH or that the standard of netball continues to decline. My reason for this is based only on the fact that most of the players on the opposing teams are YOUNGER than those in SH both in age and playing years.
It must be pointed out that SH is coached by the head coach of the senior team with standout goal shooter Lydia Bishop and the talented Renee Rudder in their lineup. Nullifying Natalie,Aggravating Alicia ( HAHAHA!!) , Stifling Shekira and Dominating Denise are also key figures in SH's annihilation of their opponents.
Good job girls !!

54-45 - Experience THAT !!
Experience will always be an important element in sports and this was obvious last Monday ( Feb 22) night at the Netball Stadium in the 2010 BNA's domestic competition.
Former Senior KO champions and an obviously AGING Spooners Hill literally manhandled a youthful and less than energetic Carlton to win their first game of the season.
It was apparent that with all the talent in the losing team some fundamental aspects of their game is missing, especially the mid-court which was as slow as molasses going up a hill. The one bright spark was the GA/GS who tried her 'hardest' to prevent her team from a humiliating defeat.
Kudos to Spooners Hill !
Commiseration to Carlton !
When experience really mattered, the losing team didn't have it to guide them.

Folly
What would happen if a club coach made a request to have several of her/his members released from national training to train with their club?
What would happen if that thought was even entertained by the national coach of that particular team ?
Stay tuned on this drama that is about to unfold in local netball !!

From 5 to 20 something
For the first time in over a decade, netballers called to senior trials are showing interest in attending.
Coach Babb has created an atmosphere unlike any other and this allows for learning by some of the best in the island at the moment.
In the past players were not willing to train on their own but now that has also changed.
Hopefully this new injection of interest from the players is a result of them being COMFORTABLE knowing that FINALLY a coach has been given to them who has their best interest at heart.
Years ago national training started with five persons, this time around it's twentysomething.

Club or country ?
When the six former national netballers from the 2009 double-crown champions declined the invitations for national trials which were extended by the new head coach, did they think that the trials nothing would happen?
For whatever reason the non-acceptance of the invitations are I do not know and honestly, I don't care. What appears to me is SOLIDARITY of their own which is ALWAYS evident when things don't go their way.
This time around that show of solidarity is almost a deja-vu of several years ago when members chosen to represent BARBADOS opted off the NATIONAL team in support of their club coach who is also.............................INTERESTING HUH ??
Apparently not only have the players decided that the newly APPOINTED head coach isn't good enough to coach them, but one former ( IS SHE ??) member who is ironically VP of the BNA seems ADAMANT that she too disapproves of the coach being CHOSEN !
Isn't it a privilege to be named as a trialist for any national team?
In refusing that invitation are we finally told that it was club more than country all the time? Coincidentally the club's uniform has the same colours .

Medusa and Medusa
In Greek mythology any one who looked at Medusa was immediately turned to stone.
In netball in Barbados there are two such characters who seem to have the tentacles of doom which ancient Medusa possessed. Recently( as late of yesterday - 13-01-10) Medusa 1 and Medusa 2 gave their reasons as to why they think the national team will be a failure over the next two years.
The blood of the mythological Medusa was said to have flowed through all the venomous snakes in Africa and in some cases it was so potent it woke the dead. HMMM !!!!
Medusa head was cut off when she looked at her own image in a mirror. HMMMM!!!!
Similarly Medusa 1&2 here in Barbados have looked in their mirrors and the only thing left to do is ....................?????
LEAVE WELL ALONE !

DARE to DREAM
I can't help but be amazed now that someone other than the AMAZONS of netball aren't in- charge of the senior national programme for the next two years, the person CHOSEN is getting nothing but flack.
In my last article I hinted about two former coaches and the absolute CRAP they are calling FACTS. These are what are the facts :
1 - Coach #1 wanted Mr.Babb to APPLY for the position of U-21 coach last year and was willing to support him then.
2 - Coach #2 ASKED Mr.Babb to do some rehab work with one of her clubmates because according to her he was highly recommended. This too was last year.
Could Mr.Babb have changed so much in less than a year causing these MEDUSAS of netball be so poisonous?
No he hasn't! He remains the same person willing to help INCLUDING Thelma and Louise .
DARE TO DREAM you two !!!!!!
DARE TO DREAMMMMMMMM !!!! SNOREEEEEEEEEEEEE !!

It is what it is
After careful consideration I am of the opinion that the Coaching Advisory Committee of the Barbados Netball Association chose the better of two candidates for the senior national coach.
It is quite obvious that this decision has irked some netball MIMES who opine that CHOSING Mr.Babb has forced netball to take many backward steps. FAR FROM IT !!
Within the four walls of a building in Blenheim are at least TWO former national coaches who feel this way with one believing Mr.Babb was WRONG for applying for the position after he had been assisting the last coach as trainer. This coach also holds the opinion that I withdraw my legal issue with the BNA to allow such.
What if I did ?? Is it your business ??
Coach No.2 believes that Babb's selection will take the sport backwards . HAHA !! It can't be taken any further ( backwards) than when they were in charge. CAN IT ?? At least some credibility will be forthcoming.
If both of these TRIED AND FAILED felt they could do a better job, why didn't they themselves apply?? OOOPS !! I guess they didn't because they couldn't write or explain a working programme.
Now another individual is thinking my 'being around the squad' will be negative publicity. That is just another load of LAVATORY MATTER ( haven't used this phrase recently) and won't be dignified with a reply. Think carefully SIR before you go spouting untruths.
It is what it is.

It's official
I'm back and ready to write. To all those people who have been asking and calling me wondering what was going on with the blog, my apologies.
Finally I can say CONGRATULATIONS TO ALWYN BABB on being CHOSEN AND SELECTED as the senior coach of our national netball team for the next two years.
I am sure that Mr.Babb will do his very best to get the team back to some prominence in the region as well as make an impression globally.
As the No.1 supporter of my friend and co-coach, it should be no surprise to anyone that he has my support in every facet 100%. It doesn't matter that I will not be in the forefront physically but that is a small issue. TO ME AT LEAST !
However already he is not getting this support from the people who 'invented' the game. These individuals who were some of the first to seek his assistance when it was needed have now completely forgotten. That's ok !
I have all the faith that the new COACH's ruthless approach ( which was needed and missing) will see us return to where we belong and ultimately surpass the expectations.
To the people who are of the opinion that my decision to cancel any legal matters with the Barbados Netball Association is because I may have the desire to be Mr.Babb's assistant, if so what?
Well done buddy !!
THE BARRIER IS IN YOUR MIND !
