Asknow.com defines a THIEF as someone who takes property belonging to someone else with intentions of keeping. It defines a KLEPTOMANIAC as someone who has an urge to steal items which they can afford.
Can someone now tell me which of the above can be used to describe the Bonnie and Clyde of netball?
To those who seeks answers to whether sleep comes to this residence at night ...IT DOES !
If you wanna know if I attend church ....I DO !
If you wanna know if there is a conscience ...THERE IS !!
What you need to know is that I am neither a THIEF nor a KLEPTOMANIAC !!!!
That being said... you guys are now DEAD !!! Go kick rocks and walk under the next moving vehicle:)
This blog has been created with the intention of raising questions about the state of netball in Barbados. Any names mentioned will be of people who are involved in the sport and all situations will be real.

A&A connects !
Age and wisdom outplayed youth recently in the 2012 Barbados Workers' Union competition when former champions A&A Connections led by former Barbados and West Indies player Lydia 'Lebron'Bishop,Renee 'Tutaia' Rudder and a hyped up supporting cast gave the national U-21 squad a lesson in netball blasting them 59-49 in the Sir Roy Trotman Zone.
The less than flattering and often times flat-footed squad at times seemed as though they were confused as to what they were supposed to be doing and were caught marking their team-mates much to the annoyance of the coaching personnel.
Without laying all the blame on the players themselves, this lack of court awareness may be the result of the lack of court craft which has apparently not been coached. The combinations too made little to zero sense especially in the second half of the game when a two-time Caribbean's Best Shooter (U-16 level) and senior national goal shooter was given the unenviable task of marking 'Lebron' while her sister was given an equally hard task of marking 'Tutaia'.
When an older but wiser and wily Sandra Forde ( A&A) was able to neutralise the starting goal shooter of the U-21 squad, many felt that the coach would introduce the shooter into the game but NOT in the defensive goal circle.
The U-21 squad is playing in a competition below the level of the World Youth Championships but are often times showing a state of unreadiness both on and off court ( not players). Sure they have the basics ( good catching skills) as they are the best netballers in that age group in the island but what seems sadly lacking is the overall preparation for Scotland 2013.
To be beaten in double figures by an A&A Connections team (which doesn't practice) by double figures is cause for some concern. To be literally outplayed in every quarter and every position is cause for concern.
So....who do we blame? The still vacationing BNA executive or the management of the U-21 squad?? My vote is the BOARD !!!!!!!!!!!!!! ** Reasons to be revealed later**
Stats :
A&A Connections - 17-32-49-59
U-21 Squad - 12-24-40-49
A&A Connections
Lydia Bishop - 32/34
Renee Rudder - 27/36
U-21 Squad
Chemyne Alleyne - 23/29
Shannon Hackett - 20/23
Vanessa Reid Cox - 6/11

Time's up....but for who?
If ever there was a case to be made for the non-inclusion of whistle blowers in schools' netball, it is NOW!!!
It is sad when an individual entrusted to lead a national team doesn't know the rules of the very game of which they have been a part of all their life.
Any umpire knows that when a player has fallen and cannot be moved due to injury, the umpires use their discretion,i.e - an umpires' timeout until that player is guaranteed to be able to move on their own or if immobile...
In the game played on Thursday October 18th at the Lester Vaughan School ( LVS v Combermere) the above mentioned happened and much to the dismay of spectators, our very own national youth team coach DENIED an injured player her right, arguing that the allotted two minutes were up and the game needed to be restarted. What about the injured player? What about the compassion of the umpire or in this case, a teacher?
Are we to believe that the inadequacy to umpire and the lack of knowledge, re: the playing rules are okay with the school's committee and it is okay that anyone in charge of a team can officiate? What happens when the national team entrusted travels and similar situations occur? Is this individual going to rant at the umpires who will be officiating, holding to the thought process that the two minutes are up?
Right is right and wrong can never be right....when you work in a bakery....you should know flour...when you work with a sport....PLEASE know the rules!!!

FIND OUT WHY...REALLY???
Barbados' participation in next year's World Youth Netball championships seemed to have been blown offside with the apparent non-payment of funds prior to any of the deadlines set by IFNA. Based on this recent alleged revelation, this has placed Barbados at the BOTTOM of the countries on the waiting list.
If the above is true, what does this mean for the U-21 squad which has been in training since 2010 hoping to represent Barbados with the intention of improving on the disaster that was Cook Islands 2009? What does this do to the psyche of the best netballers on the island within the U-21 age group? What about the management who would've given limitless time, effort and energy to the squad?
It is public knowledge that the Australian U-21 netball team will be going to Jamaica next month for a tri-series in preparation for WYNC 2013 via Trinidad and Tobago. It is also public knowledge that they will compete against the senior national team as well as the U-21national netball team from Trinidad. What is NOT known is that an invitation was extended to Barbados and it was DECLINED by the BNA based on a frivolous excuse!!!! Find out what it is !!!!
With the top six netball countries preparing for the new Fast5 competition in New Zealand, it is also alleged that an invitation to this inaugural competition was extended to Barbados and again.....it was DECLINED!!! Truth or fiction?????
The Secretary of any organisation is usually the pulse that keeps the 'heart' ticking, so why is it that there has been an 'avalanche' of mail falling on the local association and the person or persons holding those positions on the present Board doesn't have a clue? Why is it that there seems an 'I DON'T KNOW!' answer ALL the time? Find out why that is !!!!!!!!!
In every set of playing cards, there is a QUEEN,a king,an ace and a JOKER. In 2010, the QUEEN got huffed for a JOKER....now look what has happened....

No more !!!!
Almost two years ago the then Vice President of the Barbados Netball Association rallied her support from the majority of clubs and was given or loaned the mandate of 'taking netball forward'. Now there's finally proof that 'WHAT SWEETENS GOAT MOUTH DOES BITE YA IN YA BAM BAM'!
According to reports, the head honcho has allegedly said that in the time frame given, there has been no support from the other board members with some not even on speaking terms. Really?
This loss of confidence has even filtered down into the U21 squad's preparation for next year's World Youth Championship scheduled to be held in Scotland. Really?
Isn't this the same team that was publicly stated at a meeting would've taken the place of the senior team to the recently held AFNA Championships? Hmmmm!!!
The entry fee for WNC 2013 has been paid and Barbados is one of twenty ( 20) countries slated to compete. However, the second installment of payment is due this month and that's where the plot thickens for the Board and the wait and see game it is playing, i.e - there's no money about so we have to wait and see what is going to happen. Really?
Is it a case of not having any money to meet the deadline and the team suffers or waiting on the outcome of the AGM( which is after the deadline) and the COUNTRY suffers? Think on it !
The two years given were more than enough to prove that this present Board has never seen past the night of their installation. Do we give them another two and watch the reputation and image of our country suffer or do we DO THE RIGHT THING and say NO MORE ?

We shall overcome...
" I hear you running for President!" Running for President has never been on my agenda at any time but maybe this time around I will :)
It's unfortunate that the general membership of netball in Barbados have not been given anything near what was promised to them in 2010 when they sabotaged the then Administration for the catastrophe that is now, by joining forces with COW Rangers, PHD St Barnabas and their affiliates and give the power to someone who didn't have a plan in place other than that night.
Two years later and after many broken promises , discord has crept in and the camel's back has been broken. Too much LAND on the poor camel's back? Hmmmm.........
As in any takeover, there will always be casualties....some more deserving than others. First up will be the head coach of the senior national team followed by the ENTIRE Selection Committee who have all collectively failed to do the right thing repeatedly. No room for NON-workers!
"I hear you bringing back Mr.Babb and Lydia too!" Would that be in doubt? For those who don't know or will pretend they don't...YES they will be coming back! To be the best you have to get the best.....:)
In 2010,one person asked for her game to bury and that she did. In 2012, the choir is finally singing,WE SHALL OVERCOME......and that they will.

Continuity returns ...
With age comes wisdom whether good or bad...in some cases more bad than good.To be a success, there should always be some measure of continuity.
That continuity should be represented across the board beginning at the top of any organisation, in this case netball( senior team) and filtering through to the youth( U16).
Continuity worked with the senior national team in their quest to qualify for the 2011 World Netball Championships and the defeating of Trinidad and Tobago at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. It has also seen the 2012 Julie Phillips coached U16 team become regional champions.
On becoming President ( yeah I'm running....I can't be any worst, can I?) of the BNA, my coaching and management teams will comprise people who are driven and worthy of the cause and who will share my vision of NOT fixing what isn't broken ( continuity). There will be NO more leader of the pack who has the tongue of a pirates' wife or anyone with the temperament of Medusa herself.
The coaching and management teams will comprise the following with some minor changes to allow for a more settled unit.
There will be :
Barbados A - Commonwealth and World Championships team - 2009 - 2011 COACHING AND MANAGEMENT team
Barbados B - 2012 Barbados Workers' Union team - (same as above)
U21 - Lydia Bishop - Coach
U19 - TBA
U16 - Julie Phillips ( if she accepts...no applying),Makeba Clarke - Asst Coach
There you have it...read and ponder...it's what happens whenever THAT happens!

Should they bury it too?
Somewhere within the confines of the netball stadium at the immediate entrance onto the courts,is a 'box', a DANGEROUS BOX as it is often called. It is here that decisions are made by members and associates of the two power hungry netball clubs in Barbados.
It is here that the good, bad and know-it-alls criticise and lambaste anything or anyone who doesn't have any affiliation to them or their clubs much to the amazement of some members of the board of the BNA. What is surprising is that outsiders are often asked to remove themselves from this area before or during the playing of games and this is encouraged by the second in command.....
That being said, does any club have the right to manipulate public property the way these people do or does it happen because one of the clubs is saddled with workers from the 'owner'?
Are the members of this club allowed to sit where they do because it was promised to them in 2010 when they used their tentacles to gather votes for the head honcho of the Association at the AGM? Remember it was hinted that many promises were made that year in the leadup to the elections and this along with others have been brought to the fore.
Similarly the creators of netball wanted back their sport and it was given to them. Did they know what to do with what was 'theirs' when it was returned? Not in the least!
Who takes the blame for everything questionable? Is the general membership guilty of believing lies told to them by an overzealous individual with no clue to governance or the lies told to them by members of these two clubs ?
Is the general membership gonna allow such archaic and autocratic leadership determine and dictate what happens to them again in 2013 - 2014? Is the membership willing to be vilified and made to feel like mere spectators on games evenings by members of the board ?
They 'took back' their sport....they massacred 'their' sport....they might've given 'their' sport the death knell....
Should they bury it too?

Who coaches the coach?
The 37-65 loss by the girls in aquamarine and gold to Jamaica's Sunshine Girls yesterday ( July 19) has apparently sent some armchair critics and convenient coaches back to the drawing board to analyze what went wrong.
On the social media network site Facebook, one long standing administrator has intimated that the numerous unforced errors ( turnovers, bad passes, bad decision making, etc) were the result for what she deemed A DISAPPOINTING PERFORMANCE BY THE BAJANS. Playing the devils advocate, are we to believe that a perfect game was expected? Not in sports as far as I know!
While it is easy to blame the players for what happened ON the court and their poor performances, are we forgetting that something was happening OFF the court at the same time? Were the players responsible for the inane combinations used when common sense ( let's assume here) was needed?
At the 2011 World Netball Championships, Alwyn Babb was vilified and ridiculed for using one of the better defenders in a different playing position by some members of this present management team. In yesterday's loss, they ( management) did the exact thing...hmmmm. It worked at Worlds...did it work yesterday?
A team is as good as it's coach and even the best team will falter on any given day. When this happens, the true character of the coach is tested. Yesterday's loss and the asinine decisions made OFF court has proven that NOT all the blame should be meted out to the players on court.
They were guided into making the unforced errors made.
To blame the players is expected but who blames the coach??

What if ?????
To get rid of the pigeon, you gotta pull down the coop is an old Bajan saying which still holds true, so it's not a surprise that Faye Sealy has been axed from the senior national netball team in favour of an U-16 player who one selector has recently called ' A COMPLETE PLAYER'? This is the same selector who also said that Alwyn Babb knows nothing about coaching netball. Maybe HE should stick to what HE does best....( NO ONE KNOWS!).
When Miss Sealy was removed from playing her usual defensive ( GK/GD) area and given the 'nod' as an attacking (GS) player on the England tour...the call was made to Two Sons Funeral Home, the leaflets printed and the spectators were singing the last song ( It is well with my soul) on the burial site.
It's okay to have the need for new blood on any national team but has the board of the Barbados Netball Association thought about the decision to include an untried goal shooter for such a major tournament?? Not taking anything from the player who has potential to excel but can she really play the position that she has been selected for? It's not about catching and shooting that's in question but actually knowing and playing the ROLE that's important!
Another question which should be asked is what happens if the starting goal shooter is injured ( God forbid) before Barbados plays either Trinidad and Tobago or Jamaica. Are we prepared to sacrifice this young lady and hope that she is strong enough to withstand the hardship of these games? Food for thought!
This article isn't about the young lady selected because she didn't select herself and should be commended for allowing her talent to work for her BUT the unfairness that the BNA and the board members have again meted out to a player they felt should never be on the team.
Congrats to those lucky enough to be selected...

Coached to lose????
In what many netball fans might have thought would be an easy win,Pine Hill St Barnabas had the shock of their lives on Saturday ( June 16) at the Netball Stadium in a return netball clash against former Premier League queens NCC losing 37-39.
Playing without ace goal shooter Lydia Bishop who was still serving a three game suspension, former national player Colleen Griffith at goal shooter ( 15/19) and Renee 'Maria Tutaia' Rudder at goal attack ( 24/35), it was the girls from NCC who played with more intensity in the opening minutes of the game, catching the team laden with nationals and former national players on the 'back foot'.
With the winner of this game almost guaranteed second place behind newly double-crowned champions COW Rangers,PH St Barnabas lacked cohesion in the shooting circle and was overly aggressive in the defensive third coughing up penalty after penalty by the goal defense who was not effective when it mattered.
Also in the 'favour' of the girls in pink was one of the two umpires whom they had argued for and who many netballers know ( despite what HE says) is very much a part of that 'family'. Making numerous questionable calls that were all in the favour of the St Barnabas team,it was therefore a major surprise ( to people in the stands) that NCC would eventually win.
Fresh from leading a relatively succsessful BWU netball team to a Goodwill tour to Trinidad and Tobago, Kathleen( Carla) Brathwaite(GK) completely nullified anything the PH St Barnabas shooters had to offer. She was ably supported by another member of the BWU team in Chekirah Shepherd( GD).
When it mattered most, former national captain Kizzy Marville ,present national player Sabreena Smith and former junior standout Joyann Cooke proved to the girls in pink and their equally raucous supporters including those from the Selection Committee who were in the VIP box ( commonly called the DANGEROUS BOX),that commonsense will always outPLAY nonsense.
Congrats Team NCC.... you were the better team!

Really?
So Barbados has convincingly won the regional U-16 Championships and the accolades have been meted out to Coach Julie Phillips and her management team as well as the girls who made us proud.
Congratulations have been extended from all facets of netball with the exception of one individual. Guess who?
Imelda Marcos, wherever you are, this is a national team and you have a responsibility.. Like it or not, supportive or not, you are at the helm.
DO THE RIGHT THING!!!!

Shonica stars in win
Team Barbados this morning recorded their second win comprehensively defeating Dominica by a 50 goal margin ( 57-7) at the 2012 Under 16 CNA Championships being played in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
The starting seven for Barbados was : Shonica Wharton(GS),Sheniqua Thomas(GA),Tia Jones(WA),Najee Moore(C),Rashida Chase(WD), Sade Browne(GD,c) and Ashley Marshall (GK).
Displaying a relatively high level of netball which was obviously needed as goals scored is important, the youthful netballers were all over their Dominican counterparts from the first center pass.
Wharton proved a handful for the defenders, catching and scoring as though it was a mere practice match for her while her partner Thomas provided the impetus needed for the win. At the other end of the court, captain Browne of the famous netballing family and junior volleyball standout Marshall were all over the Dominican shooters with timely intercepts and rebounds.
Knowing that her girls have the host country to play tonight, Coach Phillips made some timely changes bringing Shakaila Davis (GS), Nikela Jordan (GA),Leah Deane(GK) and Damara Dawson(C) into the game and switching Marshall to goal defense.
With the changes made, the Bajan lasses set about to continue the dismantling of their obviously overplayed opponents moving the ball with quick fluidity and precision passing for the easiest of goals.
Next up for Barbados is the host country in what is expected to be a tougher challenge before meeting Antigua and Barbuda tomorrow.
Shooting stats :
BARBADOS
Shonica Wharton - 38/45
Sheniqua Thomas - 3/5
Nikala Jordan - 5/6
Shakaila Davis - 11/12
DOMINICA
Sara Jules - 2/6
Kyla Winston - 4/6
Carinda Pierre - 1/3

Another one 'quits'
Yet another talented netballer has decided to call it 'quit's with the sport at the national level while the present national coach is at the helm.
"She like she mad!" " I aint gine back dere and I tell she check me next year!" " She tell me dat this aint d team dat gine b dere in July and dat it only pick 2 go England" stated the unlucky netballer.
" I dun wid nationals cuz I aint gine round she!"
Maybe the BNA needs to rescind the decision to use autocracy instead of democracy.

Heck NO!
As a follow up to an earlier post, the PH St Barnabas has officially informed BANU of their intentions.
I have no problem with them or any club for that matter doing what they think is required because that may be their right but will it improve the fact that NONE of them can COACH? Heck NO!!
Let it be known that I can easily walk away from umpiring or the game of netball....it doesn't define who I am. Can the nasty, simpleminded,CAN'T COACH people who do it on a daily basis do the same? Heck NO!
To the one who had the winning formula from the Banks sponsored company, YOU too fall in the same category and should keep your mouth and lack of knowledge of anything out of matters not concerning YOU.
Thanks Miss PE teacher to the track team from Government Hill.....

SOUR milk!
A letter that is being kept in the clutches of the Techincal Director of the milk sponsored church team will soon be emailed, mailed or hand delivered to the Barbados Netball Association.
Apparently said individual is of the opinion that yours truly shouldn't be allowed to umpire any more games when her charges are playing. While any decision made on this matter can only be made by the Barbados Association of Netball Umpires ( BANU) and not by any club, I will ask the following:
Will it make YOU a better coach?
Will it give YOU the ability to write YOUR OWN coaching programme if given the chance to coach at the national level again?
Will it give YOU the ability to understand such a programme when it has been written as simple as ABC?
Will it make YOU a better individual and not the moron that YOU are?
If my not umpiring will assist YOU in any way possible, then I will quit umpiring immediately.
Ooops! I guess with God's help,I'm gonna be umpiring a little longer.
Only YOU!
With the advent of Mrs Always Scrooge to the top tier position of the local national team, the inability to coach the best has caused her to target my umpiring as a reason for any imminent failure.
That being said,Mrs Always 'pregnant' Scrooge, the responsibilty of the national team to perform begins and ends with YOU!! This is the time for you to officially bury the team and allow the burial rites to be read. Only YOU can nullify in one swoop that which had worked in the past. Only YOU with all your netball knowledge ( which is very prehistoric and archaic) would tell a team that their fitness is up to them. Only YOU would sit in a box with a bunch of ingrates and OPENLY criticize arguably the BEST shooter on that team.
Need I say that you were also an umpire who FAILED at the only attempt given to you when you wanted to be an IUA? Only YOU who knew so much then and still knew very LITTLE.
Before I forget, it was YOU who recently tanked when YOU couldn't lead a simple club team in a local knock-out game against a team with little experience while YOURS had all kinds . Was that a hint of England in April? Hmmmmm!
Mind your damn business!

Letter to the Secretary
Dear Madam Secretary,
As a matter of principle, resigning from your position of Secretary of the Barbados Netball Association might be the right thing for you to do at this time.
It is common knowledge that in any organisation, the position of secretary is critical to all decisions made which makes it the pulse of that organisation. Somehow it seems the opposite in the BNA.
When you resigned a previous position some years ago, it was felt that you couldn't 'work' with the then president for professional and other reasons. Has that changed?
In an organisation that seems to be run by Imelda Marcos, you are as silent and quiet as a store bought pair of LAND shoes.
While time is longer than twine, don't let yourself be caught up in the scandal that is sure to unfold after Imelda goes to Primart on the premise of a Goodwill netball tour to England.
Respectfully Yours,
Hmmmm

Netball vs Volleyball...Barbados v COW Rangers
The Board of the Barbados Netball Association has again showed it's disrespect for netballers in Barbados by 'agreeing' to the 'nomination' of a NON-netballer for the past four years as the recipient of a Certificate of Recognition from the Barbados Olympic Association.
What makes it more interesting is that said netballer's name was only briefly mentioned for the award but not agreed on.
An article carried in the Barbados Advocate( 10-03-12) states that the award has been given to women who has shown a "tireless commitment to their chosen sport". For those who don't know, this young lady's chosen sport is volleyball.
It should be noted that 2008 was the last year this netballer donned national gear or played any domestic netball prior to playing in the 2011 Barbados Workers' Union out of season competition as she was studying in the US...the recipient of a volleyball scholarship.
To the BNA I ask this question...What about the young women who have come through ALL the national teams and have represented Barbados with merit? Players like Samantha Browne,Damisha Croney,Janiece Clarke easily come to mind. What's even worst is that the players mentioned are all younger than the recipient.
I do not in any way blame the volleyballer for accepting an award which should rightfully be given to a netballer. She didn't nominate herself!
All blame should be meted out to a board with little or no commonsense who has again allowed themselves to look like spineless lackeys by an individual whose only interest in the game seems to be ADVANTAGE miles.
In the land of the blind.........the one-eyed woman really is queen.

Bunch of ish!
Less than a month under a new coaching regime, a heap of LAVATORY MATTER has been dumped on the country of Barbados by the Barbados Netball Association.
Beginning on Monday ( March 5th ) and culminating tonight ( March 7th), some of the 'best' netballers were 'invited' to trial games in an attempt to find the 'lucky' twelve to represent Barbados in the upcoming three test (Good will) series in England ( April 10-14).
Shockingly but NOT surprisingly one of the earliest casualties from this bundle of horse mess is the daughter of a former ace defender who herself was unceremoniously dumped. What makes this situation even more disgusting is that several players who the trio of SEE no evil, HEAR no evil and SPEAK no evil have retained did not participate in the first two nights of games. Hmmmmm!
Anyone who knows the grinch knows that to defy her is never tolerated and axing one of the best netballers in the island might have been satisfaction for her from since 2006.
It would be remiss not to blame the Barbados Netball Association for buying into the idea that the midas touch has finally been found. How the hell is it possible to prepare any world class team to perform at that level in four weeks?
Do they not know that we are ranked ninth in the world and hold that position by a mere ten points?
It would take a miracle ( do they happen?) to beat England next month but it wouldn't take an Einstein to tell us that the numbers that come after nine are from ten and down.
EDUCATION isn't COMMONSENSE and apparently some people or one individual has been blessed with NONE!
