National shooting ace Lydia Bishop announced her retirement from international netball recently after fourteen ( 14 ) years of sterling service to Barbados.
In doing so, Lydia has created a void in the shooting circle that will be hard to replace for a long time.
Her versatility and no nonsense approach to the game locally, regionally and internationally made the best defenses crumble when opposing her.
As one of her club coaches for the past 11 years, it has been a huge reward watching her play at all levels of the game both locally ( Spooners Hill ) and in Toronto ( Twilight Netball Club).
Many people didn't know the Lydia I did and made unjust assumptions to her character. All this made her stronger in her resolve to be better at what she did. This involved numerous lengthy discussions and countless hours of watching netball games on DVDs.
Thankfully I am glad to have been able work with her prior to the 2011 World Netball Championships as I knew it was going to be her last on the international stage for Barbados. It was also a pleasure reading newspapers from all across the world about the performances of Lydia at this tournament and the terror she was to the defenses.
Thanks Lydia from me to you !!
