I promised a friend that I would bring some good news tonight and so here it is. I had an interest in the 2009 BSSNL with the St George Secondary School and even though we didn't reach the playoffs this year, I am still going to support my OTHER school in the competition.Guess which one it is!
Here is the schedule of the games with the U-13 beginning on Tuesday June 2nd and the U-15 on Thursday June 4th at the Netball Stadium. As always the first whistle is set to blow( pun intended) at 3:15pm.
U-15
1 - Garrison vs Deighton Griffith
2 - Springer Memorial vs Lester Vaughan
3 - Alleyne vs St.Lucy Secondary
4 - CC Foundation School vs Queen's College
U-13
1 - Alleyne vs Parkinson
2 - Queen's College vs CC Foundation School
3 - Lester Vaughan vs Garrison
4 - Springer Memorial vs Combermere
This blog has been created with the intention of raising questions about the state of netball in Barbados. Any names mentioned will be of people who are involved in the sport and all situations will be real.

Dual Invasion?
I wasn't at the midseason meeting ( social gathering by another blogger) yesterday ( 26-05-09) which was held by the BNA,but while the senior netball team hasn't been "officially" announced it appears that there's going to be two overseas based players in the mix.
Calculatingly if eleven players are at trials and there are two additions(one mid-court player and one defender)= thirteen. Now ask this question.Which locally based player will be excluded to make way for the mid-courter? Why do I think it's in the mid-court? It's common knowledge that the team lacks defense. Therefore by process of eliminations........................
Another question which was asked was how these players were selected and interestingly enough the answer given was on past PERFORMANCES? Nothing more to say on that!
Realistically speaking both players are on sports scholarships. However unlike the two U-21 players in England, these players' scholarships are for two TOTALLY different sports where the dynamics are also DIFFERENT.There's the serve, volley and spike ( Volleyball) and the On your mark, set,go?( Track and Field). Now choose which one will be of greater impact and tell the BNA.
If past performances matter,I know my choice.

When,when,when??
With less than a month to go before the national netball team from Scotland arrives, how come OUR team hasn't been announced as yet?
From a vantage point there weren't that many girls at national training anyway and if some of the members of the U-21 squad were included it still shouldn't take this long.SHOULD IT?
What is of equal concern is the fact that normally when things like this happens, something BIGGER looms. Remembering the fiasco that was the U-21 squad and the lengthy delay in naming the seventeen (17),are we going to be awestruck at the team when it's announced or is something going to happen which will make us realise that THE MORE THINGS CHANGE,THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME?
Some of you may want to know why that last question was asked. Here's why. The Board of the BNA has knowingly or unknowingly selected a group of individuals who all have links to one club to form the selection committee. I am not saying that the integrity of the committee cannot be trusted, but in times of crises........................? You get the point.
Are there any major surprises that are preventing the team from being named? Hopefully there aren't going to be any more resignations when the FINAL twelve are announced.
The drama continues.

Judge not less ye be judged
Since I am a life member of the SHNC and as a result of all the nasty comments which have been circulating since Saturday May 23rd 2009, I think that because of the vast readers of this blog, I will allow those who "were" and weren't there the opportunity to REALLY know what happened.
Follow the sequences below and you hopefully will understand how the event unfolded.
1 - 1st Quarter - Brydens leads SH 13-7
2 - 2nd Quarter - Brydens still leads = 30-26 * Note the game is changing!
3 - 3rd Quarter - SH makes some telling changes, turns up the heat and trails Brydens by two goals.
4 - The whistle blower who apparently is lobbying for a job in Barbarees Hill starts to "blow" the death knell of SH.
5 - Brydens GS pummells into the back of SH's GD.PEEP ( whistle). Still no call was made. Obviously the whistle had a life of its' own then.
6 - Brydens GS again barges into a SH player. This time the WD and kicks the ball onto Court 1. PEEP ( whistle again)Verdict - Throw in to Brydens.WD is dumbfounded, shows it and the ball is advanced into the goal circle.
7- Goal is scored after advancement of ball.NEVER did this blower of a whistle say why the ball was advanced. SHs' GS goes to an umpire and after asking for and GETTING injury time, seeks PERMISSION to leave the court.
8- SH's GD also goes to the same umpire and asks the same. Was granted the same as the GS. INTERESTING !!!
9- Within the time allowed for injury( 2 mins) the whistle blower restarts the game( did he consult with the official timekeeper) and four members of SH were still on the court. In his haste he did not know that he could not continue the game with only four of SH's players on court .
10-One national coach/umpire in her attempt at preventing any further embarrassment hastened to tell him that the game couldn't continue with only four players on court. DUHHH!
11- SH's captain informs the desk( scorer, timekeeper) that the team will not be continuing the game which is "awarded" to Brydens.
12- Scoresheet is written up and signed by said whistleblower and BH, the other umpire. It reads " Spooners Hill walked off the court AFTER an injury time and the game was blown off".NB - AFTER an injury time! How possible was that?
So there you have it readers. Draw your own conclusions as is the norm.
Stranger though is that now this has played out on the big screen at Waterford ( money IS collected) division lines are drawn tighter than a noose around a murderer's neck.Suddenly comments like " I doan know wha happened" or " I was outside when I hear d commotion" are being heard. Wonder why?
Try to explain the situation and all you are hearing now is "REALLY!?" or "OH!".
If it was another club, say from close to the CHURCH and the MILK product place,MAYBE they would've been given the right. If it was the other club from near the QEH and always moving the earth,DEFINITELY they would've been right. It is SH,so YUP,they are CERTAINLY WRONG.
As a result of this, SH has to write an "account" to the BNA's Board. Is it because they awarded the game to Brydens? Utter LAVATORY MATTER!! ( had to use that phrase).
Ironically some Board members were in the stadium and somehow seems "conveniently" absent or "blind".
For the record and let me make it abundantly clear,SH has and will always stand up for their rights and be united regardless. They've never needed and certainly don't desire any allies.
It's going to be interesting to see the outcome of what transpired at the Netball Stadium on Saturday May 23rd 2009 as it was exactly three (3)years and one week ago on the same court.

Two best of three
Congratulations to the SHNC on winning two of the three games played on Saturday( 23-05-09) at the Netball Stadium.
In the Junior "A" against an exuberant Banks Spurs, the girls in royal blue and white led 9-7,16-10,24-15 before winning 27-21. Next up was an extremely flamboyant Rapid Response in the Division 5 and again SHNC led from the front at all quarters 10-3,15-8,20-10 and finally 29-14, thus denying RR a point for more than half of the goals scored. Special mention to 'old' girls Sandra Forde ( GS) who scored an astonishing 21 from 27 and Marceline Cyrus ( GA) who chipped in with 8 from 15.
The title of this post is " Two best of three" which suggests that a defeat was meted out. NOT SO! In the final game of the night the Divsion 2 opposed Brydens V8 Splash in a what was shaping up to be one of the best games for the season. Until one whistle blower stepped in and made some of the most obnoxious calls EVER seen in netball.
If this whistle blower is still desirous of going any further, it would be best if he does it as an Administrator. It was certainly tragic watching him as he seemed unsure of what he wanted to do.
It was also disheartening hearing the stupid remarks being said about the SHNC by some idiots in the stands. Most of them didn't know what transpired but all knew WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. HAHA!
Read the nonsense written on the scoresheet tomorrow night.

I had promised myself that I wouldn't get caught up in the business of responding to nonsense said by individuals who can't speak. However I will break that promise this time.
In all my years as a netball coach,I've had success after success both here in Barbados and in Toronto,Canada.I've been able to take average players and watch them become good players and the good ones become the best without a secret formula which involved eight ( 8) quarters of playing netball.
Blogging is like coaching. It involves the ability to write( I can do that), read and understand ( I do those very well) and as it also involves thoughts ( I can do that too).
For those TOTALLY UN-EDUCATED dimwits who believe that bloggers are losers, this blogger can also SPEAK. Learn to do the same and MAYBE, just MAYBE I will attempt at having a conversation with you, providing I am not going to hear any green verbs.

I swear blind
" I swear blind?"
It had been years since I had heard those words until this past Tuesday on national radio and not only was I stunned that people still used that phrase but by whom. Imagine driving and an exerpt of a press conference begins to play and the car driver in hysterics almost crashed. Here's how it unfolded.
" I swear blind that dem grudge we!"
Looking at me in absolute shock the driver asked,"She didn't say that?"
Then it was repeated again,"I swear blind....."
Again I was asked," Is she for real.Does she not know that this is national radio?"
And as fate would have it at that moment I SWEAR BLIND reverberated on the radio again and the driver in her attempt at not laughing as loud as the horns in the stadium had to swerve and avoid crashing in a BUSH.
I SWEAR BLIND?? Duhhhhhhhhhhh!

Umpires v Whistle blowers
My personal feelings about acting as it relates to that particular field is that it should be done on either stage or screen.
This week proved to me and many others that a massive stage complete with actresses of notoriety for their ability to STEAL shows(games) were in the Netball Stadium.
In the game Spooners Hill v PHD St.Barnabas it was apparent that this actress who touted her whistle with absolute glee was again going to get an encore for a performance of a lifetime. Not only was she NOT good, she was so BAD that if the critics were out,she would be nominated for OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE.
JanAus literally stole the game from Spooners Hill and even threw up her hands in utter disbelief at the LAVATORY MATTER which was being spewed from her whistle.
Exactly one playing day later the identical thing repeated itself. This time coincidentally it was another team from Spooner's Hill and the "whistle blowers" were Marem and SanMay. With regard to Marem, it is ironic that she was the umpire in 2006 when the now infamous incident occured.
The nominees for OUTSTANDING ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE for her portrayal of an UMPIRE are JA, MR and SM.
The envelope please !!!!
The winner is ............................................................. ALL 3 OF THEM.

Do you think so too ??
If a child tells a parent that he/she isn't going to the bathroom because he/she doesn't like the fact that the bathroom is not painted in a particular colour and the parent gives in to the child, what does that say about the PARENT??
If a public figure goes on national radio and boldly states," When dem come in d stadium it uses 2 b like Cook Islands en Jamaica in dey and dem just GRUDGE we!", should that person still be a public figure??
If the BNA decided that enough was enough as far as the BEST U-21 squad is concerned and blew the whistle that signalled the end of the game for a team of four, was that the right thing to do??
Yesterday's press conference brought to light the tragedy that was waiting to happen. What does the above questions have to do with that ( 1) - The first question was asked by one of the MANAGERial team,(2) - The second was a comment made by another of that axed group and (3) - One of the aggrieved holds the opinion that they should still be allowed to continue with the team. DUH!!!!
Green verbs + BAD coaching = Recipe for disaster. My co-coach concocted that phrase from the time the entire MANAGEMENT team was named and he wasn't wrong when he said it. DO YOU THINK SO TOO ???

Laff it off
Last Tuesday saw history being made in netball in the land of the flying fish. The BNA fired ( can that be done if money wasn't involved ?) the entire management team of the U-21 squad.
This evening( 12-05-09) somewhere in Blenheim in a place not too far from the Barbados Community College, that said group and perhaps some follower(s) and those who don't know WHEN to let go decided enough was enough and summoned the press. What was said will be read in the daily newspapers soon.
Just know that if it was anything like last Thursday evening's call in programme where family mattered all of a sudden and Lottie ( of Okra in d stew fame) came to town, went back home and brought out Mabel and company, we're going to see LAFF IT OFF at Waterford real soon.

FAILED
Was it poor management? Was it poor decision making or was it just plain POOR coaching that was being meted out to the BEST U-21 team ever?
One week and less than five practice sessions after new management took over the reigns from SJ,VH et al, the confused looking group that was CI bound seems to be settling down. Watching them go through some paces tonight one would never believe that it was the same disgruntled unit.
I will be honest in saying the group looks fit. What I would not say is that those girls now need catching and passing drills to go with their apparent fitness. Yeah SB!!
This article would be completed if I didn't say something else. When you fail to prepare,BE PREPARED TO FAIL!! SJ,VH et al?? HAHA, you FAILED !!!
Does anyone remember the three monkeys: See no evil,Speak no evil,Hear no evil? I rest my case.

Anthem
The following post should be sung to the tune of the National anthem.
In plenty and in time of need
When this fair land was young
A woman came with lots of greed
And then she did some wrong.
A wrong that made the public think
At what she had just done
And then this woman chose to speak
The public then had fun.
We loyal sons and daughters all
Do hereby make it known
This team you have is now recalled
Go try and find your own
We wrote you off on that fair night
When things were at an end
No matter what you have to say
The B-N-A wins again.

NO green paper
Less than five days after Air Barbados U-21 crash landed at Waterford St.Michael, investigations by the crew on board continues.
Pilot: " It aint dun dere. I leff my sick mudda in come down here and dis cahn dun so!"
Co-pilot : Silence
Pilot : " Andy,ef u ain no wha happen, lemme tell u,lemme tell u. I give all my time to dem girls, mek dem wha d is now and dem do wha??? It aint dun dere!"
Manager : Silence until she remembers Coleridge Street never closes. Then she makes a telephone call to one of her charges and this is what SHE said " Tell her her days are numbered!"
Pilot : " U know, dem numbered"
In steps the newly elected President of the BNA and without much fanfare or fuss, issues the management team of that fateful flight their GREEN papers.
As the Donald would say, "YOU'RE FIRED"

Winning formula
Yesterday I was in awe when it was revealed that the 2007 national team was the worst that ever was.Coincidentally it was said by the former ASSistant national coach and until recently HEAD COACH of the U-21 team.
Imagine that one year after the spurs of bayland won the senior division in this island with a winning formula, that formula DEspurred an entire club.
OUCH, pricked by a red rag.

Me for President????
Nominations for the post of President of the Barbados Netball Association are now closed and the only nominee is this blog owner. Read how it unfolded and guess who was the nominee.
Facebook.com was the sounding board for a lot of trash talking this week when several supporters of the recently dismissed U-21 management voiced their concern. It's crazy that when all was going wrong nobody had anything to say and now that drastic measures have taken place, everyone has an opinion. I have not been active in netball ( MY CHOICE ) do I really have an interest ( MY CHOICE) nor do I seek to be in any managerial positions( MY CHOICE).
However, one matronly individual in attacking the President and the Board of the BNA decided that she would PASS THE BALL TO ME? HAHA! I HAVE CAUGHT IT!
Now I am going to take the winning shot. If whomever was that honest and opinionated when it really mattered,a LIFETIME of public scrutiny and humiliation would also be a myth and not a FACT.
Time for CHANGE. Cameron for PRESIDENT.
Voting will be done online. Go to facebook.com and vote.

Aint dun dere
When the plane that was headed for Cook Islands in August of this year crashed on Tuesday night, the debris that remained has caused a stink which seems to be heading for Coleridge Street.
On a local radio station this evening ( 07-05-09) the former head coach was adamant in telling the entire country and beyond ,"It aint dun dere,It aint dun dere!" Now tell me what that terse statement that is riddled with green VERBS means. Of course it DUN DERE. I know that some members of the FORMER ( HAHAHAHA) management team are of the belief that I am being given inside information. To you my "friends", dream on.
On another public meet and greet site, one former U-21 trialist was of the opinion the present Board is made up of a group of people with either no backbone ( think the last Executive Council) and that the President should be around more. My dear trialist, while I am not advocating anyone for anything,YOU should be careful what you wish for, it's right around the corner.
I HEREBY DECLARE THAT THE BOARD OF THE BARBADOS NETBALL ASSOCIATION IS HEADING HARD FOR COLERIDGE STREET.
"IT AINT DUN DERE!"

Now tell me what that terse statement that is riddled with green VERBS means.

The BEST decision on the road to Cook Islands
Life for some will never be the same in local netball after the Board of the Barbados Netball Association FINALLY did what had to be done and CANCELLED their passage to the Pacific region 2009.
Several months after the BEST U-21 team ever had been literally run into mental anguish and couldn't run anymore, some of the members decided that enough was enough. If talk was cheap, somebody bought a mint of it.
What is absolutely amazing is that one of the "victims" of this cancellation was also the individual who felt that the five year ban given to me wasn't enough and should've been doubled. What don't CATCH you, don't PASS you!!
In a recent post I had said that if the Board didn't make the best decision then the general body should ask for the resignation of the members. No need to ask now,THE BOARD HAS WON,AGAIN!!
To all my readers, come back again tomorrow night.

SECOND BEST !!
By now the entire country would've known that the national U-16 team is the second best in that category in the Caribbean. This accomplishment,Shannon Hackett's repeat of winning the individual shooting competition and the third (3rd) place in the team shooting competition are all commendable and were achieved at the recently held Caribbean Netball Association's (CNA) tournament in Kingston,Jamaica.
Congratulations are extended to head coach Julie Phillips and her management team on a job well done.
