Truth vs Fiction

Why was one of the most promising junior defensive netballers in Barbados not at senior national trials on Monday night ( 23-02-09)?? Was it because she was the only one who couldn't be "forced" into going?

Ironically the seven or eight trialists who attended seemed to be having a ball ( pun intended). It was also refreshing to see our BEST juniors doing something NETBALL related for a change. Smiles, smiles and more smiles were on their faces and not from mental stress, but from physical stress.

I have said that I will not use this blog to be the voice of individuals. However I will say this to management of a certain squad. PLEASE talk to your charges and find out why THEY THINK/THOUGHT that senior trials are better than theirs and that they are LEARNING and DOING more.

Kudos to the seniors in charge ( COACH and TRAINER) on the GOOD work being done.

OLD,NEW,MAYBE SO!

With the 2009 netball season beginning next month, are we going to have a better season or will things remain the same?? Will the league committee be more approachable? Will players be able to ask questions and get ON THE SPOT answers or will they have to go away thinking that it is just the same old story?

That isn't all. What impact will the "new" board members have on the season? What changes and or ideas will be brought to this sport by the "new" board?

Finally will we see some innovative ideas brought to the court as attempts are made to save the sport?

Time is a great healer and it is also a better provider.

Some of the critics of the national senior squad might've been silenced on Monday when the head trainer conducted a less than two hour session with both squads ( senior and U-21). Fifteen minutes into the session and girls were huffing and puffing. According to one observer, it was a reminder of the 3 Little Pigs story.

What was funny was the facial expressions of some.It was easy to identify the sprinters/hurdlers from the distance runners. Hey, it was a stadium, wasn't it?

So here's a tip to Anonymous AGAIN : The netball game is never and will never be about marathon runs. It is a game filled with STARTS and STOPS! When you said that this U-21 team will be the best ever, you might've been right. Now you have to find out HOW !

Who's 2 blame?

In all the masquerading that is going on at the Netball Stadium and the midst of utter confusion, someone is missing. Guess who??

We have openly criticised, some of you have vilified and others have asked for resignation letters to be submitted.NO ONE has asked themselves, WHERE the HEAD TRAINER? Some months ago at a meeting held at the National Stadium, my good friend was elevated to HEAD TRAINER status. I guess he is still waiting on the mandatory contract before he assumes this position.

Isn't it strange that he is still quiet? Is he going to run them into the ground( pun intended)? Is his involvement in track and field the reason for the runs? Hey, I know him and he is just a SPRINT coach.

He is my friend but he is also accountable.

Get over it!

When I was elected as Secretary of Spooners Hill Netball Club, I knew that there were certain parameters that would come with that position, especially my involvement or lack thereof with the BNA and some board members.

Amazingly the more things change the more they stay the same. I dislike people who are pretensive. To me that is on the same scale as a liar and everyone knows how deadly liars are.

On the board at the moment are two individuals who in my honest opinion are untrustworthy and pure FAKERS in the truest sense of the word! One in particular apparently believes that netball and the BNA are hers. NOPE,IT AINT.The other is just MEAN and SELFISH.

I had promised that this blog will never be used as a sounding board to vent anger or frustration and even though this posting has that tone, I AM NOT ANGRY. Time and tide waits for no man and when the tide comes ashore very soon, hopefully those present will neither be caught offside or in the gully of my home parish.

I can easily walk away from this sport. CAN YOU?? MAYBE YOU BOTH SHOULD!

6-6-1-2

Announcing the departure of Flight 6612 to the Pan Pacific region. All passengers are asked to check in at Gate U21 and await further instructions before boarding.

"U gonna write something tonight?" That was the question asked of me when I was leaving the netball stadium tonight ( 12-02-09). I didn't immediately answer because I knew that whatever I wrote, no matter how analytical it was,my critics will be up in arms. However, in all fairness to the person who asked the question, her friend and others I will try.

In the initial stages of this blog, I wrote about the excess amount of running the national U-21 squad was doing at that time.I was criticised and even the team I am affiliated to was thrown in the ballpark. The truth has finally been told!

Last week the margin of victory against the national U-16 team/squad and a BWU team not in training should've been noteworthy. Persons involved were on a high.Tonight Flight 6612 from BAR U21 crashed all over Waterford!

The senior national squad outsprinted, outshot, outjumped and outpassed what was truly a lacklustre squad in training for arguably the biggest moment for all concerned.

In the year of a major competition and what will obviously be the only one for most of the squad, nothing seemed right and everything went wrong. Poor passes, strange combinations, the inability to mark properly, poor footwork and lack of knowledge of the game/rules made it easier for the senior squad. The lone bright spark was in the shooting circle with Shaniece Banfield, catching afire and trying her hardest to do what twenty-odd others couldn't.

The U-21 squad has played and is playing netball because of what they have brought with them to this level thus far. That they have not been instructed on how to PLAY the game is another topic worthy of a discussion.

How can we justify scoring less than thirty goals against a team that can't get seven players to attend training? One blog critic made this statement. How was it possible that arguably the best U-21 team ever ( I didn't say that ) can score 6-6-1-2 in four FIFTEEN minute quarters? Sure it is still a squad, but class is class and what is form????

Q: Would it be fair to blame the players for everything that happened? Do you remember the ginger-bread man?
RUN,RUN,RUN, you can't catch me I'm the ginger-bread man. HAHA, he was caught and chewed FIFTEEN times before he was swallowed.

Tell it like it is

Q-When people who should know better chooses not to do better what does that mean? The answer ( a personal one) is at the end.

For the past few weeks, highlighting highs and lows about anything netball proved a bit harder than imagined. The outcomes were usually filled with some humour but also the truth, and for that some SHAREHOLDERS in the sport are livid.

Recently, the most amusing thing has happened. It has now reached the stage where MY words, thoughts and OPINIONS are causing friction with whistleblowers.Imagine that!

Do we/don't we have a right to say what is the truth? Isn't that what democracy is all about? Are we supposed to sit back and not say anything when something that is wrong should be corrected?

Why is it that when the truth is told, others will say it would've been in your best interest that you didn't say anything?

A- It is better to speak than to be caught between a rock and a hard place.

Article 5:5-1( a-f)

Is there an Article 5:5-1 ( a-f) anywhere in the Constitution of the BNA? I know that when the Constitution was AMENDED and ADOPTED in 2006,as a member of the Executive Council there was never any additions to facilitate this.

However when I received the letter from the BNA, it said The Council of the Association has accepted the recommendation and as a result, you will be suspended from all netball activities conducted by, or under the auspices of the Barbados Netball Association. PLEASE refer to the Association's Constitution,ARTICLE 5:5-1( a-f) to be aware of the parameters of this suspension.

More to follow.
As the 2009 netball season approaches and almost everyday of my existence, I am still being asked the same question all the time, " U get d transcript yet?" My answer is always the same "NO!"

With that said, I am going to provide my readers with some insight as to what has NOT happened and then you can decide.

After the incident had occured on May16th 2006 and the meeting with the then Disciplinary Committee was held, the Spooners Hill Netball Club and I were to each receive a copy of the transcript that was CONSTITUTIONALLY ours FOURTEEN ( 14) days after said meeting. It has never been done.

This is the last paragraph of the letter I received from the BNA dated May 25th 2006: With respect to a transcript of the hearing,as you are aware , the Secretary( name withheld) is out of the island at this time. Ms ( Secretary) is the person who took the notes at the Disciplinary hearing, which would necessitate her imput in the compiling of this transcript, in conjunction with the Disciplinary Committee. Immediately on her return to Barbados, the transcript will be completed and sent to you as REQUIRED.

Almost three years later, no transcript and this question can be asked , IS THE SECRETARY STILL OUT OF THE ISLAND?

More to follow.

When PAPER was sweet

Despite some truly questionable calls and a bruising altercation, Paperchase Ballers milked the nectar from a strong PHD St.Barnabas team on 01-02-09 in the Sweet-16 Out-of-season netball competition playing in the Pine,St.Michael.

Both teams had an abundance of former, present and future national players with the game being played at a rapid pace. It made some of the spectators ask if these players were also competing for places on a track team. AGAIN!

Lydia"Lebron"Bishop made all the difference for the Paperchasers with her athletic ability and good circle craft confusing the GK from St.Barnabas. As Tiffy says " Way to go Bish". Only Lydia knows what I mean.

What was amazing was when St.Barnabas GS and the GD from Paperchase got entangled AFTER an umpires' call. Granted before this entanglement the said umpire was asked if he was going to allow some measure of fighting to occur. Less than two minutes later, it almost did.

Equally amazing was that the said umpire was tossed around like he was making a TOSS UP
in a game. That was soooo funny.

Anyone who has been around netball in recent years, know that despite how many protestations and seminars, an umpire can MAKE or BREAK a team and that was evident in this game. In the end, the team that wanted the victory more won out. The umpiring on both sides of the court.............., figure it out.
