When ninth ranked Barbados plays for the wooden spoon of the 2014 Commonwealth Games ( netball) against lower ranked St Lucia, many questions will be asked to the Barbados Netball Association but none will be answered. Hopefully they prove me wrong!
The Selection Committee also has to take some blame as they too would've been part and parcel to the non-selection of specialist wing attack Sabreena Smith. Will they?
Commonwealth 2014 has proven that the ones asking back for 'their sport' are not and would never be the ones to lead any national teams EVER again! Or will they?
Professional sports hire and fire coaches or managers based on results and productivity. Should this case be any different when the results are there to be seen and the productivity from the team is obvious?
Many years ago the Barbados Netball Association dismissed/fired another former national coach who up to that time couldn't motivate the senior team to attend training sessions. Guess who was the replacement?
In 2009 and 2013, the BNA again did the unthinkable and fired the management teams of the U-21 squads weeks before major competitions. Precedent setting.
With the AFNA qualifiers scheduled for Calgary,Alberta in less than a month, will the Barbados Netball Association do the right thing and dismiss the senior management or will they put the WISHES of the same team on the back burner in favour of friendship? Hopefully they prove me wrong !
Many will wonder why the allegations of Glasgow 2014 seem so familiar....that's because it's a repeat of Melbourne 2006.
To quote a former national player on the team then ." Same S**T, different toilet."
The cries have been heard, now it's time for action.
I totally agree with you. However, you and all of netballers know that the same thing will happen again and again and we will be back here and in other forums repeating these same sentiments. Have you seen the manager or ass. coach on a national team where the competition is not a big stage (world level) competition?
ReplyDeleteDo you expect any other result? Do you think that they are really in whether the team lose or win? Winning would only mean a feather in their cap and nothing else. Playing two GA in your first game and a game maybe the only game you have a chance of winning? Ridiculous!! and to make matters worse you sub both of them for two GS and put Shonica at GA and you call yourself a coach. The only way I would play two GAs is if both of them are tall and you want a twin tower combination because of the line up of the opponent.
These people are never available for Regional tournaments in the caribbean but always available when there is a major competition over and away. I remember when we had trouble finding a manager for the tournament in Trinidad and we had to use Daisy Brown because none were available. I remember when the tournament was in Barbados and and we had to use Neisha Cummings and the list goes on. We as netballers have sat by for too long and allow injustices to happen to our players and allow certain persons to get away with murder. The time has come for us to correct the wrongs that is happening to the sport that we all love. Let us make a stand now because it is already too late but not late enough not to get out of it.
